Course Description:

The objective of the course is to train science teachers’ trainee on how to design, organize and manage laboratory activities to inculcate scientific skills and attitudes in learners. This is necessitated by the global emphasis of science education which is to equip teachers with the essential skills on how to teach science to reflect then nature of science and scientific enterprise.

Course Objectives/Student Learning Outcome:

At the end of this course, the students should be able to:

·       explain the nature of science

·       provide a broad overview of concept of laboratory

·       describe different laboratory designs

·       state the principle of a good laboratory management

·       carry out various safety procedures in the laboratory

·       mention the different ways the laboratory can be organized

·       improvise science teaching equipment

Course Structure

The course delivery system is composed of both theoretical and practice-based teaching as well as blended learning format (supplementing the offline classes with online activities).

·        In class lectures and online supplement will be the major methods of course delivery for theoretical aspects.

·        For practice-based teaching, students will be assigned into groups(5-10 in a group) with members of the group making presentations of about 10 minutes each (including presentationand feedback time).
